IBT published a Crimean Tatar Dictionary of Biblical Terms

The Crimean Tatars are a Turkic people, belonging to the indigenous population of the Crimean Peninsula. Their number in Russia according to the 2020 census is about 260,000.

The IBT Crimean Tatar Bible translation project was launched in the early 1990s. As part of this project, the following books were published: Gospel of Luke / Gospel of John / Acts / James (1996); Stories about Jesus Christ (2002); Prophets (2005); the Gospel of Matthew (2006); Wisdom of Solomon (2007); the Fourth Gospel and Acts (2008); Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy (2009); Psalms (2011). Finally, in 2016, the complete Bible was published under the name Mukaddes Kitab.

After the publication of the complete Bible, IBT continued the Crimean Tatar project by working on the compilation of a Bible dictionary. The dictionary contains more than 600 terms and proper names, which are taken from the edition of the complete Bible. For each term, a translation into Russian is provided, followed by the main meaning of the term and some passages from the Bible where the term is used. At the end of each entry, biblical quotes are provided that illustrate the usage of the term in its primary meaning. The purpose of this publication is to assist Crimean Tatar speakers in better understanding the meaning of the Holy Scriptures and to promote the development of the Crimean Tatar language.

An electronic version of the dictionary, as well as previously published Bible translations into Crimean Tatar, can be accessed online and downloaded from the Electronic Publications section of the IBT website.
